Cycling The World On An Adventure Of A Lifetime
We love supporting cyclists at Pedalsure. It’s what we do. Providing comprehensive cycling insurance whether you’re a road cyclist, mountain biker or someone who uses their bicycle to get to and from work. We also love supporting cyclists doing amazing things and that’s why we’re delighted to be supporting two cyclists taking on a once in a lifetime adventure for a very special cause.
Meet Caroline and David. In September 2021, they left the UK to ride 29,000 kilometres around the world in 6 months to raise awareness and funds for Barts Charity, the charity that supports the Barts NHS Trust in London funding everything from staff wellbeing and patient benefit, to the latest equipment and groundbreaking medical research. They’ve set themselves a fundraising target of £50,000 for the charity.
As well as fundraising for Barts Charity, Caroline and David are attempting to set a new Guinness World Record as the fastest unsupported couple to ever circumnavigate the world by bike.
We’re delighted to be sponsoring Caroline and David on their round the world epic and also covering their bikes with our comprehensive cycling insurance. We caught up with them before they set off to find out more about their cycling journeys so far.
Caroline
Hi! I am 33 and I grew up in France. I studied and worked in the US and Switzerland before moving to the UK in 2015 to work in Investment Banking. I discovered cycling in 2017 and quickly entered the world of ultra-distance racing.
I have completed a 10,000m Everesting to raise funds for Refuge, am a two-time finisher of Les Cinglés du Mont Ventoux, second women finisher of the unsupported Race Across France 2019 (2600km in 8 days), and the fastest rider of All Points North 2020 (unsupported, 1000km in northern England under 66 hours).
In 2020 I have ridden the full route of the Tour de France a month before the men pro-peloton to support women in cycling and raise money for the Pasteur Institute to help fight COVID-19.

Hello! I am 35 and I am an NHS Trauma and Orthopaedic surgical registrar at Barts NHS Trust.
I was born in England from a Polish mother and a Northern-Irish father, and spent my childhood riding my mountain bike and doing the paper round. At 18, I decided to ride Land’s End to John O’Groats on my own. I came back changed mentally and physically from that experience and have continued to enjoy bikepacking ever since.
In 2005, I rode from London to Morocco with my best friend. In the summer of 2009, I rode from Athens to Venice with two friends. And in 2010 I cycled from Los Angeles to New York in five weeks.
I am passionate about how sports can help everyone better their mental and physical health. All my rides helped raise funds for medical research charities such as Operation Smile, Cancer Research, and Joint Action.
The Route
Starting in Alaska in September 2021, and taking one day of rest a week, they will ride west to east and average 170km in the saddle each day. Their plan avoids areas made inaccessible due to COVID restrictions while allowing them to fulfil all requirements from the Guinness World Record: 18,000 miles, one direction, and ridden through two antipodal points.
